Rainy day wedding in beautiful big sur, ca

If you could get married anywhere, where would that be?

Intimate Wedding in the Redwoods

Nicole and Colin traveled all the way from Canada to California to get married in Big Sur. They started off their day getting ready at the quaint, iconic Deetjen's with each of their sets of parents helping them get ready for their big day. Even though their beloved Yorkie, Prince could not join them–I love that Nicole brought some Polaroid snaps along to include him in the memories.

After the couple was ready, we wandered into the forest for their First Look. With a light drizzle of rain surrounding them, Colin got to see Nicole in her gorgeous dress for the first time. As the rain really started to come down, we all hopped into our cars and drove the five minutes to Big Sur Lodge. Surrounded by their loved ones, Nicole and Colin did not let the rain deter from their beautiful ceremony. In fact, their entire ceremony was filled with smiles and laughter. Each of their parents gave beautiful heart warming speeches that brought everyone to tears. After they said "I Do" everyone ran into the lodge to get warm by the fire and toasted champagne to the newly married couple.

I then took Colin and Nicole away for a few cliffside portraits along the coast. The misty foggy air hung low in the mountains, and we finally got a little reprieve from the rain drops. I've said it once, and I'll say it again–you have to be willing to go with the flow if you want to get married in Big Sur. She has a mind of her own, and you NEVER know what kind of weather you are going to get. Nicole and Colin did just that. Never once did they let a little water get in the way of making their wedding day everything they wanted it to be. You can tell a lot by how a couple deals with unexpected challenges and these two took it in stride. I foresee a very long, and very happy marriage between these two...

from the couple

Tell me about you and your partner! How long have you been together? Tell me something special about your relationship at this stage?

We've been together for 4.5 years. We bought a house together in July of last year and it's been such a fun and exciting time building a home together. We got our little doggie Prince in February and he's the love of our lives!

How did he/she propose?

Colin proposed on a trip to Kelowna. We were sipping a glass of wine, enjoying a charcuterie picnic, and overlooking the vineyards at Quail's Gate Winery. It was truly magical.

What is the first thing you noticed about her?

Her smile. I actually asked her if she had veneers (haha)

What is the first thing you noticed about him?

He had very beautiful deep blue eyes. We were in a "party tent" at Stampede at one of his industry's events, and he was very outgoing and seemed to know everyone. I was intrigued.

What is your favorite thing about her?

She has this nurturing and caring nature to her. She shows so much love to everyone around her.

What are your favorite things to do together?

We love entertainment! We're both movie and music buffs and love going to the cinema and to live concerts. We also collect vinyl records and really enjoy showing each other new bands and songs. We're not HUGE hikers, but we definitely enjoy getting out of the city and having a pleasant stroll in the mountains or in the forest surrounding the Rockies. We also love traveling and are excited to get back into it. We go back to Cape Breton Island at least once a year and enjoy exploring new cities together.

What is your favorite thing about him?

I can be a little scatterbrained and anxious at times, and he makes me feel completely at ease. He has this extremely calming and tranquil energy that makes me feel at home when he's around.

If there was one word to describe your relationship what would it be?

Loving.
