Big Sur, California, is a stunning coastal region known for its dramatic cliffs, beautiful beaches, and picturesque landscapes. Capturing maternity photos in such a scenic location can result in breathtaking and memorable images. Here are some suggestions for maternity photoshoot locations in Big Sur:

  1. Rocky Point: This rocky landscape boasts coastal cliff views as well as views of Bixby Bridge. The mix of cliffs, ocean, and the iconic Bixby Bridge can create a magical setting for maternity photos.
  2. Pfeiffer Beach: With its famous purple sand and unique rock formations, Pfeiffer Beach is a popular spot for photography. The sea stacks and interesting textures can add a special touch to your maternity photos.
  3. Bixby Creek Bridge: This iconic bridge is not only a marvel of engineering but also a great location for capturing maternity photos with a stunning coastal background.
  4. Garrapata State Park: The park offers a variety of landscapes, including coastal views, meadows, and famous cliffs. You can find different settings to suit your preferences.
  5. Garrapata State Beach: A five minute drive from the Garrapata cliffs, this beach truly has it all. Wildflowers, views of the mountains, the ocean, interesting rock structures, and of course, Cala Lilly Valley.
  6. Redwoods: Many redwoods in Big Sur are on private property, so some redwood areas are only accessible if you are a registered guest. The redwood forests can offer a more secluded and intimate setting for your photoshoot.

When planning your maternity photoshoot, consider the time of day for the best lighting. The golden hours (early morning or late afternoon) can create a warm and soft atmosphere. Also, be mindful of the weather and dress accordingly. Lastly, work with a professional photographer who is familiar with the area and can help you capture the beauty of Big Sur in your maternity photos.

I had such a great time with Tiffany and James during their Maternity session in Big Sur. They were staying at Ventana and so we decided to take advantage of the beautiful redwoods on their property. We were met with a little bit of rain that day which made for the cutest photos! We also went to Pfeiffer Beach since it was a quick ten minute drive, where their adorable mini merle bernedoodle, Nori joined us for the all the fun!
