Ready for One Last Adventure?!?

A Maternity session in Big Sur, CA is not your typical maternity session. It truly is an adventure. We will not just be standing in one place, taking a couple of smiling photos, and be done. We will be walking, twirling, climbing, snuggling - but don't worry! There are lots of moments to breathe, rest, and just enjoy the gorgeous scenery surrounding you. These sessions are definitely for the more adventurous mama who wants something a little bit different. These are for the mama who wants to look stunning surrounded by stunning scenery. There are definitely ways to ensure that this type of session goes smoothly and is comfortable, yet fun for everyone. So, let me give you my top 5 tips for an Adventure Maternity Session in Big Sur.

1. Take MY Styling Advice!!!

Every single one of my maternity clients receives an in depth style guide created by me. I have spent hours putting together this guide to make sure that you are comfortable, safe, and of course - looking your best! What you wear to your session in incredibly important. It will dictate the final outcome of your gallery, and it will also dictate how you feel during the session. Short versus long dresses, sandals versus boots, hair down versus hair up - it ALL matters!

2. Book your session at the right time

I typically tell my clients that the best time to book their Maternity Session is anywhere between 28-32 weeks. That way, you have a nice, round bump - but you are also able to comfortably move around. Like I said, we WILL be doing lots of moving around!

3. go with the flow

Big Sur is a wild, and unpredictable place. It is not a sterile, perfectly lit, quiet studio. Make sure you are prepared for wind, fog, dirt, and different terrain. Remember why you chose this beautiful area. We cannot control the weather, so the best thing you can do is embrace it. Let the sun warm your face, let the wind blow your hair and dress, let the ocean water lap over your toes. I have done hundreds of maternity sessions all over Big Sur know it like the back of my hand. I will keep you safe, and I will make you look like the gorgeous queen you are.

4. eat and hydrate

Make sure to eat a light snack and drink some water before we meet for your session. Just to reiterate - we WILL be moving! Most of my maternity sessions in Big Sur take place at two separate locations, whether that is the in the redwoods, the beach, or the rocky cliffs. The overall session time, from beginning to end, is about 2-2.5 hours. You don't want to be starving halfway through the session.

5. make sure you choose a photographer who knows the area

Again, Big Sur is wild. I highly recommend you choose a photographer who is local, and knows the area well. I have spent countless hours scouting the coastline, and have found certain areas that are off the beaten path, absolutely stunning, but that I also know are safe to go to. I know which areas have poison oak, which areas have loose dirt, and which rocks are safe to climb on.

The most important piece of advice I can give, is to remember why you chose this beautiful area. It truly is one of the most magical places in the world. Let your outfit compliment the amazing scenery, not distract from it. Breathe in that ocean air as you stand in the Pacific Ocean, don't worry about your hair losing it's curl. You are going to receive an absolutely stunning gallery, no matter what - just let Big Sur work her magic.
