Welcome Baby Betsy
Welcoming a newborn into your family is a beautiful and emotional time. As a newborn and family photographer, I love when I have the opportunity to document these early days as everyone in the family gets to know its newest member. I am honored when families open their doors to me and allow me to come in and capture those very special first few days of baby's arrival. It was a pleasure to meet this adorable family and welcome Baby Betsy with a newborn lifestyle photography session in their home.
Part of why I love in-home newborn sessions is that everyone can be more relaxed and comfortable. Plus, I get a chance to see the beautiful nurseries! I loved the muted tones and natural light in Betsy's nursery and it was actually one of my favorite rooms to shoot in!
Welcoming a new baby sister can sometimes be daunting for older siblings, but not for Katherine! Katherine was SO excited to show me around their house, show me her play kitchen and she was absolutely enthralled with my camera. I think they have a future photographer on their hands! Photographing a newborn lifestyle shoot in a family’s home means that we can include all members of the family. So, for this session, the family decided to add their chickens to the photoshoot! I love when families want to add something that is personal to them, and chasing these chickens was the perfect way to end the shoot.
I often have families ask how an In Home Newborn session works, so I decided to put together a short list of Frequently Asked Questions.
IS MY HOUSE OKAY FOR A PHOTO SESSION?
Your home does not need to look like it should be on Pinterest. It does not need to be perfect. The most important thing I am looking for is natural light, and a lot of it. We will be using the rooms that have the most natural light, typically the master bedroom, nursery and living room.
How long will the session take?
An In Home lifestyle session will typically last between 2-2.5 hours because we stop frequently for nursing and diaper breaks (or meltdowns and snack time :). It’s intentionally an unhurried session. I won’t have anyone scheduled right after you. So, there’s no worry about us not getting shots because baby is unhappy. These sessions are laid back and relaxed. We’ll work around your and babies needs.
I just had a baby. Do I have to clean?
No, mama. There’s no need to clean the whole house. Just declutter one or two areas and you’re done! No one will see the tiny dust particles on your coffee table in the photos. Again-your house does not need to be perfect! We just need to move things out of the shot, such as carseats, bouncers, etc. Throw them in the bathroom or closet-and we're good to go! You’re busy with a newborn and don’t need to worry about cleaning! I get that!
Do I need to move furniture?
Don’t worry about this ahead of time. Once I get there, I will assess the lighting situation, and we may move furniture depending on that.
When will I get my pictures?
About 2-3 weeks after the session, I will send you a link to your online, high resolution, beautifully edited gallery. From there, you can download, share, or print your images. You can even print your images right from your gallery through my online store!
